Thank you for volunteering for the Levels Coke Challenge!

Below are the instructions for performing the two Coke Challenge trials. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions!

Experiment Details

Hypothesis

Our hypothesis is that people who are active after a glucose load will see a reduced glucose response.

Methodology

For both of the two trials, log your Coke with a picture in the Levels app, and tag it as CokeChallenge to enable results tracking. For your activity trial, you will also log an Exercise.

Instructions

We first need to get several measurements to understand an individual's normal glucose response to the glucose load in the can of Coke. We will do 2 total trials, 1 with activity, and 1 without.

  1. Consume the soda at least one hour after waking up and log it in the Levels app with the CokeChallenge tag in the log.
  2. Do not consume any other foods before drinking the Coke
  3. Avoid alcohol within 24 hours before the experiment.
  4. Try to consume the Coke at approximately the same time of day for both tests
  5. Each test should be done on a different day (i.e. do not run this test twice on the same day)
  6. The tests should not be run on consecutive days (i.e. not two days in a row)
  7. For the trial without an activity, attempt to stay reasonably sedentary for 2 hours after consuming the Coke. You can still go about your normal day, but try to stay seated as much as possible.
  8. Do not eat anything for at least two hours after consuming the Coke
  9. Please recycle the cans 🙂

Activity

To test the independent variable, we need to follow the same rules as the control group, but include activity. Instead of staying sedentary for 2 hours, please go on a walk for up to 2 hours after consuming the Coke. Start walking immediately after drinking and continue walking for at least a minimum of 30 minutes.
